Objects carved in stone last longer than almost anything to which people can turn their hand.
Stone carving can satisfy a desire to capture memories and images, to mark an event, to write words of love or commentary in verse or prose, to create art - or simply to provide visual distractions indoors or out. They can be serious or comic: likenesses of the living or the dead, or objects such as gargoyles and representations of the eternal Green Man. The possibilities are endless.
Most people have some sort of innate creativity. Owing to the nature of modern life, this often remains dormant. Our experience indicates that there is a desire in many people to reconnect with a dormant capacity to be creative.
Our courses demonstrate that people greatly enjoy the experience and that the majority can achieve a reasonable level of proficiency relatively quickly. Often people who take up stone carving as a hobby quite late in life become passionate about it.

Commissions
We work to fulfil commissions to carve pieces both great and small, both for gardens and indoors, in relief as well as three-dimensional.
-
We use different types of stone or marble to ensure the piece suits the context.
-
We advise on ideas and designs, as well as working to your specific designs.
-
Heads, busts, lettering, memorials, heraldic designs - and many more - are our speciality.
-
We carve in situ or at our workshop in Somerset, from where we will transport the finished product to your location.
-
We also do remedial work, subject to feasibility. We carve replacement pieces where it is not feasible to make good.
-
Prices for commissioned work are dependent on the nature of the commission.

About us
We are a small team of dedicated stone carvers, led by Ian Ward – a master carver. Ian was trained at Winchester and apprenticed for four years at Chichester Cathedral as a mason and carver. He then worked for many years at a multitude of sites, often winning commissions on a competitive basis, either individually or as part of a team.
Well-known locations that bear testimony to Ian’s expertise include St Paul’s cathedral, St George’s chapel at Windsor Castle, the great hall of Stirling Castle, Woburn Abbey and Althorp - as well as very many private residences and gardens for which he has produced work for individual patrons and their families.
